Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for February 23rd, 2024. It’s Friday, so we have to check out the remaining releases of the week. Not so many big ones today, but a healthy crop nonetheless. After summarizing all the games worth summarizing, we’ll take a look at the lists of new sales and expiring discounts. And hey, that’s fine for today. Let’s get to it!

New Releases

Promenade ($24.99)

promenade.jpg

This is an interesting game. Imagine a 3D platforming collectathon, one of those ones where you’re collecting Woobies or Snublubs or stars or something. Now squash that into a 2D platformer, and that’s Promenade. You’re trying to fix the Great Elevator by finding its missing cogs. As you repair it, more stages open up with more cogs to collect. I’ll have a review of this one soon, but so far I’m rather enjoying it.

Alwa’s Legacy + Alwa’s Awakening ($21.99)

alwaslegacy.jpg

I more or less gave up on including bundles in these round-ups because they’ve by and large become a vector for repackaging trash to get around the eShop lower price limits, but I’m making an exception here. The Alwa’s games are excellent action-adventures, and this is a great price to add both of them to your collection. I’ve ended up buying multiple copies of both of these games on a variety of platforms just so that I can play them anywhere I may be.

Japan Train Models – JR Kyushu Edition ($13.99)

japantrainmodelsjrkyushuedition.jpg

Another one of these releases, this time featuring trains from JR Kyushu. I’ll once again say that there isn’t really much of a game here, as it’s more of a way to play with virtual train models than anything else. You can make little dioramas and check out the train models in fine detail. This isn’t going to be all that interesting for most people, but those who are fascinated by trains will likely get something out of it.

Wira & Taksa: Against the Master of Gravity ($16.99)

wiraandtaksaagainstthemasterofgravity.jpg

This is a platformer with some puzzle elements sprinkled in. You take control of two different characters, Wira and Taksa, and must use their unique skills to progress through the stages. As you might guess from the title, there are a lot of gravity-based shenanigans afoot here. Since this is a RedDeer game, the standard advice applies. The “normal" price is jacked up a bit so the publisher can discount it deep to its real price and look like they’re giving you a deal. Always wait for a sale on RedDeer games.

Pixel Game Maker Series Cat and Castle ($4.99)

pixelgamemakerseriescatandcastle.jpg

A couple of cat-related games today. This one sees you playing as a cat named Moi (“Me"? Weird name), exploring a mysterious castle and trying to find some food. It’s a stage-based game, though there is some exploration within those stages. It’s a fiver, and if nothing else it has a… distinct look to it. I’m sure it’s fine for an evening of laughs.

Chop Goblins ($4.99)

chopgoblins.jpg

This is a short (think about a half hour long) first-person shooter where you need to hunt down the Chop Goblins. They’ve escaped out into the world, and you have to chase them through time and space to put them down. You know, I don’t mind the idea of brief games you can just fire up and replay without having to commit a lot of time, and I think such things suit the first-person shooter genre well. The price point fits, too.

Nyaaaanvy ($9.99)

nyaaaanvy.jpg

A self-proclaimed butt-wrestling game featuring elongated cat-like creatures named Nyanvys. They apparently battle each other to see who can become a Cat of Cats. Alrighty. Up to four players can fight it out locally, or up to six players online. There is also an arcade mode and survival mode for those who want to play solo. Naturally, there are plenty of customization options so you can make your Nyanvy look the way you like. It’s one of those silly physics slap fights, but if you enjoy those then I think you’ll have fun with this.

Unlife ($10.99)

unlife.jpg

Set in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland, this is a cinematic platformer of sorts where you play as a sick man who is the last one remaining in his “platform". He needs to find a way out, make his way to other platforms, find other survivors, and try to rebuild life. It seems to have found a niche audience for itself over on Steam despite some rough edges, and I imagine it will do the same on Switch.

Escape First Alchemist ($7.99)

escapefirstalchemist.jpg

Solve the puzzles to make your escape… from a reclusive alchemist’s workshop!

The Bin Bunch

Kings Odyssey ($4.99)

Truck Sim 2024 ($9.99)

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

A decent list of new sales, and if you like turn-based tactical RPGs then Mercenaries Saga Chronicles has never been cheaper. The Red Lantern is also extremely affordable at the moment. The weekend outbox is short but also worth checking through. Have a good look.

That’s all for today and this week, friends. We’ll be back next week with more new games, more sales, some reviews, and perhaps some news. Wait, the Pokemon Presents is next week. Almost certainly some news, then. As for me, I have to report to the hospital for my little IV juice box. Seven days of this, not fun. I hope you all have a better weekend than I’m going to, and as always, thanks for reading!
